DO YOU STILL NEED TO PURCHASE A DOMAIN NAME?

After you have experienced your free trial by clicking on my home page on my website and paying for your site, you will most likely want to purchase your own domain name. By doing so, you will remove the "shoppingcartsplus" name from your URL and make your website look professional.
Many of my students were purchasing their domain names from various sites and then couldn't understand how to configure the DNS for their domain.
If you move your domain name to your site on shoppingcartsplus, you have to set up your e-mail with them. There will be some downtime of your e-mail during this process. Here's how to set everything up with the least amount of downtime:
- Change your DNS settings through your domain name registar (Go to where ever you purchased your domain name from and find the link that says DNS and add the below addresses to the DNS setting) :
Primary DNS Server: ns1.domaincityservers.com
Secondary DNS Server: ns2.domaincityservers.com
-
How you do this is dependent on your registrar (the site where you purchased your domain name from). However, in most cases you should be able to do so online. You may have to refer to the instructions available at your registrar. This usually is under topics like 'changing your website host', 'changing your DNS settings', 'changing your name servers' or a similar topic. If you have trouble, please contact our Support Team.
- When logged in to your website, click the 'Edit Site' tab.
- Click 'Domain & Email' -> 'I already have...'.
- Under 'Attach a Domain Name', enter the purchased domain name and click 'Save'.
- Click 'Email'.
- Click 'Add an Email Account'.
- Enter your account info and click 'Create Account'. Then, click on the 'Setup' button by your e-mail for further instructions. If you need additional help, please read E-mail Account Setup.
It takes 2 to 5 days for everything to get processed by your registrar and for the info to proliferate across the internet. Your e-mail will only be down for likely one day or less. The e-mail you setup with us will not work until after your domain name is working with your site.
Email Account Setup
By reflecting your web address, email accounts that are set up through your website give a professional feel to correspondances with your visitors/customers . These email accounts will use your domain or subdomain name within the address.
For example, if you use a subdomain name like www.yoursite.shoppingcartsplus.com, your email addresses will look like 'name@yoursite.shoppingcartsplus.com. Or, if you have set up your own domain name like www.yoursite.com, your email addresses will look like 'name@yoursite.com'. Consistency between your web address and your email address reassures your visitors/customers that they are dealing with a representative of your website.
How should I set up my DNS entries?
The DNS entries for your domain name should be pointing to the following DNS servers:
ns1.domaincityservers.com
ns2.domaincityservers.com
You do not need to enter in the IP addresses even if the company you purchased the domain names requests them. Simply leave the IP address fields blank.
Note that for your new domain name to work, you will also have to enter it in under the "Edit Site" tab -> "Domain & Email " -> "I already have a domain name and I want to use it with my site".
